Product Overview

Upgrade your carbine build with duty-grade durability and improved cycling performance with the Faxon Firearms 14.5" 5.56 NATO SOCOM Profile AR-15 Barrel. Featuring a robust Gov't/SOCOM profile, this barrel places additional mass where it matters most—behind the gas block—to effectively manage heat expansion, dampen barrel whip, and maintain sub-MOA precision during sustained firing schedules.

Precision button-rifled from certified 4150 Chrome Moly Vanadium (CMV) steel, the barrel is treated inside and out with a Salt Bath Nitride (QPQ) finish for superior surface hardness, corrosion resistance, and lubricity. Engineered with a smooth mid-length gas system, an 11-degree target crown, and an M4 feed ramp barrel extension, each barrel is Magnetic Particle Inspected (MPI) to guarantee flawless performance out of the box.

NFA / Pin & Weld Compliance Notice: At 14.5 inches in length, this barrel is below the standard 16-inch federal minimum for rifle barrels. To avoid Short-Barreled Rifle (SBR) classification under NFA regulations, it must be installed on a registered SBR receiver, an AR pistol, or permanently paired with a extended muzzle device via pin-and-weld to achieve a total length of 16+ inches.

Key Features

  • Gov't / SOCOM Heavy Profile: Extra material behind the gas journal absorbs rapid-fire heat and minimizes zero drift under harsh duty conditions.
  • Smooth Mid-Length Gas System: Softens recoil impulse, reduces wear on bolt carrier components, and ensures reliable cycling.
  • Salt Bath Nitride (QPQ) Finish: Interior bore and exterior surfaces receive a deep nitride treatment for extreme wear and corrosion resistance.
  • 4150 CMV Steel Construction: Machined from stress-relieved, certified Mil-Spec 4150 Chrome Moly Vanadium steel for ultimate durability.
  • Versatile 1:8" Twist Rate: Button-rifled 1:8" twist rate stabilizes standard 55gr range loads up to heavy 77gr match projectiles.
  • 11-Degree Target Crown: Precision-machined recessed crown protects critical exit rifling to maximize shot-to-shot accuracy.
  • MPI Quality Inspected: Individually Magnetic Particle Inspected to detect micro-fractures or material flaws.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the advantage of a mid-length gas system on a 14.5" barrel?
A mid-length gas system on a 14.5" barrel increases dwell time buffer compared to carbine gas setups. This results in a smoother, less violent extraction cycle, reduced felt recoil, lower internal operating temperatures, and extended bolt carrier group life.
How does the SOCOM profile differ from a lightweight or pencil profile barrel?
The SOCOM profile incorporates thicker wall dimensions under the handguard area between the chamber and gas block. While adding slight weight (1.50 lbs total), this extra steel substantially increases heat absorption and prevents precision loss during rapid strings of fire.
What gas block size do I need for this Faxon barrel?
This barrel features a standard .750" gas block seat diameter with a generous 1.9" journal length, making it compatible with almost all standard .750" low-profile or adjustable gas blocks.
Is Nitride finishing superior to Chrome lining?
Salt Bath Nitride converts the surface layer of the steel rather than adding a material layer. This maintains original precision rifling tolerances for enhanced accuracy while offering equal or superior wear and corrosion resistance compared to traditional chrome lining.
