Large Capacity Magazine Exemption Program

Terran Gear USA is committed to complying with all applicable federal, state, and local laws governing the sale and shipment of firearm magazines. Certain states restrict the sale or possession of magazines exceeding a specified capacity while providing statutory exemptions for qualified individuals, government agencies, and licensed businesses.

If you qualify for a state-recognized exemption, Terran Gear USA may authorize your account to purchase eligible products where permitted by law. Approval is granted only after documentation has been reviewed and verified.

To maintain compliance, all exemptions must be re-evaluated for each purchase.  Simply add the SKU: AB1263 with your other items in the same shopping cart and upload the front and back photos of your peace officer credentials using the upload file buttons with the AB1263 item. 

*NOTE: We generally recommend not using email to share your credential information as emails are generally considered an insecure method of transmission of personally identifiable information.  Our web portal provides a more robust security apparatus reducing the risk of your information getting out in the open.  Note also that there is a 500KB size limit on images so you may need to crop down your images so that they can upload successfully on the web portal.  If you need help, just email us at info@TerranGearUSA.com 

Requesting a Large Capacity Magazine Exemption

Exemption Requests

  1. Create a customer account at TerranGearUSA.com.
  2. Ensure your billing and shipping information is current.
  3. Add the SKU: AB1263 along with your large cap mags, mag extensions and related items in the same shopping cart and upload the front and back photos of your peace officer credentials using the upload file buttons with the AB1263 item.
  4. Add to Cart, Check Out Now, and Submit Order. 

Documentation Requirements

  • Documentation must be clear, current, and legible.
  • Photographs of identification or permits are required.
  • Terran Gear USA may request additional documentation if necessary to verify eligibility.
  • Approval is not automatic and is subject to review for compliance with applicable laws.

Active Law Enforcement Officers

Active local, state, and federal law enforcement officers may qualify for exemptions in certain jurisdictions where state law permits the purchase or possession of otherwise restricted magazines.

Applicants must provide photographs of the front and back of their current law enforcement credentials.

Individual law enforcement exemptions may be available, subject to applicable law, in the following jurisdictions:

  • California
  • Colorado
  • Connecticut
  • Delaware
  • Hawaii
  • Illinois
  • Maryland
  • Massachusetts
  • New Jersey
  • New York
  • Rhode Island
  • Vermont

Please note:

  • New Jersey generally limits individual law enforcement purchases to magazines with a capacity of 17 rounds unless otherwise authorized by law.

  • The District of Columbia and Washington State generally do not recognize exemptions for individual law enforcement officers; purchases may be limited to authorized government agencies.

Active-Duty Military Personnel

Where authorized by state law, active-duty members (peace officers) of the United States Armed Forces may qualify for exemptions allowing the purchase of otherwise restricted magazines.

Applicants should provide photographs of the front and back of their current military identification.

Military exemptions may be available, subject to applicable law, in:

  • California
  • Colorado
  • Connecticut
  • New York
  • Rhode Island

Additional state-specific restrictions may apply. For example:

  • New York limits certain military exemptions to individuals authorized under applicable state law.

  • California generally requires qualifying military personnel to also meet applicable peace officer or other statutory exemption requirements where required by law.

Federal Firearms License (FFL) Holders

Businesses holding a valid Federal Firearms License may qualify for exemptions where permitted by state law.

The following FFL types generally do not qualify for this exemption:

  • Type 03 – Collector of Curios and Relics
  • Type 06 – Manufacturer of Ammunition

Business exemptions may be available, subject to applicable law, in:

  • California
  • Colorado
  • Connecticut
  • Delaware
  • Maryland
  • New Jersey
  • New York
  • Rhode Island
  • Vermont
  • Washington

When applying, please provide:

  • A copy or photograph of your current Federal Firearms License.

  • If located in California, a valid California Large-Capacity Magazine Permit.
